Oh how do I start this. All of my life I was the "larger" kid. Of course I played the regular sports. Soccer and basketball. Never really all that good at either. I was the goal keeper in soccer due to the fact that I could barely run the length of the field. I was in band in High School not only because I enjoyed playing music, but because marching band counted as a P.E. credit. (Irony at its finest) My senior year I started at somewhere around 210lbs. I picked up BMX racing and quickly moved up in the BMX rankings. Well with my type "A" personality I decided I'd buy a road bike to try and get in better shape. Over the past few years I had tried to lose some weight through running and things like that but never ever stuck with it. Well once I bought my first road bike from my now good friend Jeff at B&B Bicycles it was on. Over the next year or so I developed a love for cycling and participated in multiple bike rallys at 19 years old. As a college freshman I was working nights and loving life. One night late at work I found a website. www.ironheadrp.com. Here I found the first triathlon I would ever do. Did I mention I now race for Team Ironhead? Over the next two years I continued to pursue my education at UTA and work nights, along with develop my endurance for triathlon. On July 22nd, 2007 I finished my first Ironman in 11:07:36 in Lake Placid, NY. On April 13th, 2008 I finished my second Ironman in 10:29:46 in Tempe, Arizona and qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. In December of 2008 after the Ironman World Championships I decided to run the Dallas White Rock Marathon again. (First time being 2006 in a time of 3:49:24) That December I ran a 3:06:49 with brutal winds and high temperatures. That time was fast enough to qualify me for the Boston marathon. During early 2009 I developed an interest in ultra running which has developed into me running my first 50K, and 100K. Since then I’ve completed numerous ultra marathons including 50Ks and 50 milers. Sooner or later I’d like to attempt my first 100 mile run. In late 2010 my love for trail running led to my mountain biking on the same trails I run. Now I incorporate mountain biking with my running and have completed a few local mountain bike races. I now want nothing more than to share my love for the sport that has given me so much to other people. So many people have helped me get where I am and I appreciate each and every one.
Someone asked the other day if I had a photo from my "bigger" days and I thought it would be a great idea to create a comparison photo. So, here it is.
My hobbies outside training:
While trail running/cycling and work take up a lot of my time I always find time to spend with my wonderful and unbelievably supportive wife Courtney. She is a gift from God and I cherish every minute I get to spend with her. When I'm not seriously training or working I love to go on casual runs or rides with friends, drink great beer, eat any tex-mex/Mexican food, and just spend time with friends!
Often times people think that all I do is train as hard as possible all the time. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you're ever looking for someone to go out and ride or run with don't hesitate to shoot me an email and we can get together!
